Thank you for choosing TR Tax & Bookkeeping Services as your tax professional. We are pleased to have you as a client. This letter confirms our understanding of the terms and the nature and extent of the services that we will provide.
For new clients, work on your tax return will begin only after receipt of a $200 initial fee, which is earned upon commencement and applied toward the total preparation fee if the engagement is completed.
General Firm Responsibilities
We will prepare your 2024 Federal and California income tax returns based on information you furnish. We will electronically file your returns or provide you with paper copies to file with the required jurisdictions. We will not audit or otherwise verify the data you submit but will rely on the information you provide. We will retain copies of your returns as required by law.
General Client Responsibilities
You are responsible for providing, in a timely manner, the complete and accurate information needed to prepare your returns. You agree to report all taxable income, including bartering, partnership interests, sales of business or personal assets, and investment income from all sources. If you are unable to provide the required information by the first of the month a return is due, you understand that an extension may be required, and the return may not be completed by the filing deadline.
Client Substantiation Requirements
You agree to maintain timely and appropriate records for any deductions, including travel, automobile, business gifts, entertainment, and charitable contributions. If you claim such deductions, you represent that you have the required evidence. You are solely responsible for retaining all supporting documentation.
Conflicts of Interest
You agree to inform us of any actual or potential conflicts of interest, including with a spouse, Registered Domestic Partner, or related party.
Due Diligence and Interpretation of Tax Law
We will exercise due diligence in interpreting tax rules and will resolve questions in your favor whenever reasonable justification exists. Aggressive positions may require disclosure on Form 8275.
Married / Registered Domestic Partner Filing Acknowledgment
By signing this Agreement, the undersigned taxpayer acknowledges that this engagement may relate to the preparation of a joint federal and/or state income tax return. The undersigned represents that they are authorized to accept the terms of this Agreement on behalf of both taxpayers or registered domestic partners for purposes of this engagement only. Each taxpayer or registered domestic partner remains responsible for reviewing and approving the final tax return and will separately sign all required tax filing authorizations, including Form 8879, prior to electronic filing.
Client Review and Signature Responsibility
By signing the completed tax return or the electronic filing authorization, you affirm that you have examined it and that it is true, correct, and complete to the best of your knowledge.
Fees for Tax Preparation Services
The minimum fee for individual income tax return preparation is $400. Fees vary based on complexity, forms required, and scope of work. Current pricing details are available in the Client Portal.
For new clients, a $200 initial fee is required before work begins. This fee is earned upon commencement of services and will be credited toward the total preparation fee if the return is completed.
For engagements involving multiple tax years or increased complexity, a retainer of up to 50% of the estimated fee may be required.
Full payment of all remaining balances is due prior to final delivery unless prior arrangements have been made in writing.
Electronic Filing
We are required to electronically file all California returns that qualify. By signing, you consent to electronic filing unless you separately sign Form 8454 to opt out.
Additional Charges
Routine consultations related to return preparation are included. Services requiring substantial research or work outside standard return preparation will be billed at $200 per hour, billed in 30-minute increments, with your prior consent.
IRS and State Correspondence
You agree to promptly notify us of any notices received from tax authorities. Signing a Tax Information Authorization (Form 8821) is encouraged to allow us to receive copies of tax correspondence. In the event of an audit, we are available to represent you under a separate engagement and at standard rates.
Privacy Policy
We maintain the privacy of your information as required by law. We do not sell or share your information for outside commercial purposes. Certain information may be shared internally among related parties, such as spouses or registered domestic partners, unless you instruct us otherwise in writing.
